Evan is a very creative and artistic 17 year-old boy. Evan was diagnosed with Autism at age four. His interest in drawing started as a toddler with sidewalk chalk. One of Evan's first drawings was two stick people with "ddy" and "mmy" written underneath. At age three Evan was spelling phonetically and had drawn his interpretation of "Daddy" and "Mommy." He drew letters and numbers years before he could speak. Evan began speaking simple words at age six. Evan has a significant language deficit and we are continually working to improve his verbal skills and spontaneous conversational ability. Evan can read and has a wide vocabulary. He may only speak two or three word sentences, but his language is always appropriate to the situation. Evan has a fun personality and a great sense of humor. through books and the internet. He has a very large collection of children's alphabet books. He has made alphabet flashcards and even created some books of his drawings.
We are lucky that Evan has found art as it gives him purpose. He can sit for hours at his desk watching You-Tube or other computer sites, listening to music, and drawing. Evan is skilled at using the computer and often incorporates computer generated graphic art into his drawings.
Evan is a great artist and his unique ability is self-taught. Evan has a hard time parting with his work, and often doesn't like people looking at his artwork. We frame special pictures and this helps Evan understand that the picture is a gift. We hope that having his pictures posted online will give Evan a sense of pride and help him want to share his art with others.
We are very grateful that Evan has this talent that gives him focus and motivation. Art gives him joy and purpose and is a great outlet for his imagination and emotions. Thank you to Angel Boy Art for providing this excellent opportunity to showcase Evan's ability.
