Constantine Salce
Constantine is a very smart, funny, lovable 2 year-old with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type II. SMA is a genetic disorder that affects one in 6,000 babies. SMA is characterized by muscle weakness of varying degrees. Type I is the most severe and type IV is the least. SMA affects the motor neurons which causes weakness of the skeletal muscles including those used for breathing and eating. SMA is a devastating disease, but it is considered the closest neurological disorder to finding a cure. We are very optimistic that a cure will be found soon.
Constantine is an extremely happy, silly boy despite all he has had to go through. He loves doing art, playing with his baby sister, and playing with his cars and trains.
